Lymphoscintigraphy

For this scan radioactive Tc Sulfur Colloid is injected into the web space between the fingers or toes. Images are acquired 20 minutes and 2 hours after the injection. Lymphoscintigraphy allows the radiologist to see the workings of the lymphatic system. This network of channels helps transport fluid (lymph) and cells through the lymph nodes and to the body. Lymphoscintigraphy can assist in diagnosing lymphedema, a condition in which lymphatic fluid accumulates in the soft tissues and can lead to inflammation and obstruction.
